Read aloud and grow a child's brain

The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends promoting literacy to new families beginning at birth.  According to an article published in the New York Times, recent studies using functional magnetic resonance imaging to measure brain activity in 3-5 year old children showed that children who are read to at home demonstrate "significantly greater activation of brain areas in a region of the left hemisphere called the parietal-temporal-occipital association cortex: a watershed region, all about multisensory integration" (Klass, P., 2015).  This in turn correlates to greater vocabularies, language development, literacy achievement, and academic outcomes.  Read the full article HERE.
