Most Millennials Prefer Paper Books

...and not just millennials!  While publishers continue to offer electronic books and tablet-style e-readers continue to be popular, many readers say they actually prefer a paper book.  Several of my Jeffco colleagues report very few checkouts of their ebook collections, even after extensive student training on ebooks and how to get them. Several recent studies indicate that readers focus better and retain more information when they read print versus screen-based text (see HERE and HERE).  Many readers report that there is just "something" about the feel and smell of a paper book.  Yet the benefits of electronic books are many: fewer textbooks to carry around in high school and college, less storage required in classrooms and libraries, and ease of portability while traveling.  Ultimately, reader preference will drive the availability of format.  According to a recent survey by Publisher's Weekly, the tech-savvy millennial generation largely prefers paper books.  Read more HERE.  Are you surprised?  What is your preference?
